KIDS COUNT: Ranks Iowa Eighth Best State for Children

Rainbowsculpture1Iowa ranks eighth nationally in the 2011 National Kids Count report on child well-being. The 22nd Annual KIDS COUNT Data Book, released by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, evaluates and ranks the fifty states on ten health, education, welfare and economic indicators of child well-being.

The findings also show that Iowa finished second lowest in two areas: the percentage of children without secure parental employment and the percentage of teens not attending school and not working. Since 2000, Iowa has lowered teen deaths, infant mortality and child death rates.
